I can't believe I lived without one of these for so long! This thing is awesome! I love that I can now puree things while they are hot and still in the pot. Hey, I rhymed! Sorry, back to subject. My favorite things to use my immersion blender for are soups, pasta sauce, apple sauce, and purees. No mess, no getting out the big blender, no spilling hot food on myself while I try to transfer it to the blender while it's hot.
Now, I don't even have a fancy one. In fact, it was $10 in the clearance isle at Wal-mart when I got it. It's a no-name brand. But hey, it does the job. I love that the end detaches and I can throw it in the dishwasher!

I have one and I think it is great too!
I love my immersion blender!
I'm totally going to get one of those!
For the longest time I've thought I should get an immersion blender...nice to hear how much you like yours.
You might just inspire me to use the one I've got. I found one at a yard sale for $3. But I have yet to use it. I don't make much soup and I hadn't thought about using it for pasta sauce. Going to have to try it.
I have a Hamilton Beach from Wal Mart (less than $20) and it has a couple of other attachments, including a whisk which I use for whipping cream.
However, the attachment with the blade got warped (the plastic piece around the blade)... I guess it got too hot at some point. Now I cannot use it because without the plastic piece fitting properly, the blade ends up scratching the bottom of my pots.
So, it's back to ladling soup into the big blender again.
