Hot Chocolate

Hot Chocolate from scratch seems to be all the rage on cooking blogs lately so of course I had to come up with my own version. It just looked like fun to make and I really don't know why because there really isn't much too it. But, still, it actually was fun!

4 cups whole milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder

I used all organic ingredients hoping that would make me feel better about it in a healthy sense. Hey, at least there isn't refined sugar in it, right?

Mix together in a pot on the stove stirring or whisking so that it doesn't scald. Once blended and hot, pour into mugs. (Using a canning funnel helps with the pouring.) Serve when hot with marshmallows or whipping cream....or hey, both!

Oh, and you have to use your cutest hot chocolate mugs of course!

Looking for a crazy good mocha drink? Look no further. And whatever you do, DO NOT try to guess the calories in this drink!

Blueberry Peach Yogurt Smoothie

Man, this was good! Pretty darn healthy too!

2 oz peach yogurt
1 cup frozen blueberries
juice (apple works fine but just about any kind will work...I used grape cause I had it on hand)

Blend yogurt, blueberries, and just enough juice together so that it will blend smoothly.

Wassail

On another blog there has been discussion about what Wassal is? Is it the tradition of putting up your tree and decorating it or is it a beverage? I don't have a clue, but I do have a Wassail recipe and it's very yummy. Makes the whole house smell yummy. Spelled differently.
(no, the picture is not mine)

3/4 c sugar
3 c water
10-12 whole cloves
3 large cinnamon sticks (broken)

Boil for 10 min. covered. Turn off heat and let sit overnight.

When you are ready to serve:
add- 2 cups orange juice
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 gal. cider or apple juice

Bring to a boil. Turn off heat. Strain and serve.

Keeps for 2 weeks in fridge.

Mocha Punch

2 1/2 quarts water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup instant coffee (I use decaf)
1 cup nestle quick
Boil 2 1/2 quarts of water (10 cups). Let water cool enough that when you put the instant coffee in, it doesn't foam over the edge. Add sugar, instant coffee, and nestle quick. Refrigerate for 2 hours. Add 1/2 gallon of chocolate ice cream and 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream (I like to scoop it and add it that way) when ready to serve. Mix till foamy. Top with whipped cream on each cup.

Warning: This is very filling! If you drink much of it before a meal, you'll be too full to eat. =0)
This recipe floated around our church for some time and then I finally got my hands on it.
